Government subsidies on electricity and gas to end in September resulting in rate hike from October

On Sept. 26, Japan’s 10 major electric utilities and 4 major city gas companies announced their rates from October usage (billed in November). With government subsidies ending in September, prices of all companies will rise.

The government has been subsidizing electricity and gas bills between July till September to lessen the burden from air conditioning during the summer months.
