At a meeting held today, the Japan Poultry Association explained about 8.41 million chickens, roughly 6.5% of the total, were killed due to bird flu outbreaks. Furthermore, there is high demand for eggs in fall from stores offering "Tsukimi" menus.
Wholesale prices for medium-sized eggs currently are at around 325 yen per kilogram. Price may revert back to around ¥250 per kilogram by next summer if there is no further bird flu outbreak.
