I want NURO Hikari fibre optic internet – do I need to contact my landlord?

Hi, everyone!

I’m renting through XROSS House and (foolishly) paid ¥5,500 for a service where they hook me up with GTN to handle fibre optic installation. Their contract looks… kinda ass:

Monthly fee: ¥4,180 (tax incl.) for a 2-year auto-renewal

I got a ticket number like HIKARI-XXXX, so I assume they’re piggybacking off Hikari, like many other providers.

I checked Kakaku and might not use GTN even after paying for the “foreigner-friendly” service. NURO looks way more affordable at ¥1,967/month. I might miss out on some cashback from Kakaku since I’ll be leaving after 1.5 years, but overall it seems cheaper than GTN.

Now for my questions:

  1. I’ve been using Google Translate for NURO’s website. Anything obvious I should prepare for once I finalize the contract? I assume they’ll schedule a technician to come to my apartment.
  2. Their site says:

If you live in a rental property, we ask that you obtain permission from the building owner to carry out the work yourself. We also offer a proxy service.

There’s a coaxial cable slot below my TV's cable – does that mean my apartment is “fibre-ready,” or will they still need to do work? Should I email XROSS House anyway?

Sorry for all the questions! I’ve only been in Japan for a week, so I’m still getting used to things and the language. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!
