To the group of Brits/Aussies (whatever) riding the Yamanote at 9:30 tonight

Just want to let you know that it takes a lot for me to get my feathers ruffled by tourists, so the fact that your group of 10 or so pissed me off is an understatement. You should know that when you all stood in the middle of the car yammering away while all drinking beers like it was a damn Friday night mixer, every single person in the train car was judging foreigners even more than they already do. I have no doubt that one of you will see this because you looked like the types to browse Reddit, so please let the others know. Thanks and have a shitty rest of your trip.

  1. Fuming inside at something that really doesn’t matter and then leaving a bad review on the internet is the most Japanese thing I’ve ever seen. Congratulations you’ve assimilated lol

  2. Life’s too short to get this worked up. We get it, shits dummy out here nowadays, but from us to you. It’s all good G, life goes on, we understand you had to get it out of your system and vent. But, tomorrow is a new day. Hell, 22:00, it’s a new hour. All the best to ya. 🤙🏼

  3. Oh no people drinking on a train in the evening😂shock horror. Wind your neck in its not the level you are exaggerating it to.
Sure its a bit annoying and not typical but its not the usual busy times, and not like Japanese people dont do sometimes.

  4. I’m lucky that my daily commute doesn’t require me to take Yamanote or go thru any major tourist stops. Good luck to u, it’s only gonna get worse in the future

  5. They were so close to fully integrating into Tokyo culture. Their mistake was not throwing up all over the place and falling asleep across the priority seats while crapping their pants.

… or is that more of a Chuo Line thing?

  6. I guess op has never taken the chuo line on any given evening, or gone to Zushi from spring to fall at any time of day. The trains are absolutely full of Japanese getting their day drinking on to head to the beach, and coming back to keep their drink on till they hit their more local watering holes.

    Double standard.

If it bothered you enough to post here, you could have moved to another train car at the minimum.

  7. I was just on the Narita Express and a group of tourists busted out speakers and started playing music. Large speakers. They looked like I just ran over their dog when I asked them not to do that.

  8. few weeks ago I said the western culture is harder to fit in and the damage is more than Mainland Chinese…..someone disagreed, I am not saying it is anyone’s fault, i am sure the Aussie / Brits just not aware that Japan will conisder their behaviour wrong

  9. So let me get this straight. You were sitting down in the train, minding your own business, then these guys walk in, stand in a group, have a conversation while having a drink and not interacting with you in any way whatsoever and somehow that made your life worse? Sheesh

  10. Guys, this is rage bait. Look at OP’s comments:

    >I just moved here yesterday

    >You’re right I can’t speak about zushi because I don’t live in zushi nor do I travel there

    >And I did let them know they were standing in front of the doors nonverbally by approaching the doors without saying anything and waiting for them to move

    >the fact that they were all drinking beer is what really pissed me off

Weird foreigner that moved here yesterday, has never been to the beach in Kanagawa, refuses to do anything except be passive aggressive and complain on the internet is annoyed at… people standing in the train having a drink. Clearly rage bait.

  11. It’s an insult to the average Tokyoite’s intelligence to assume that “ every single person in the train car was judging foreigners even more than they already do.” Don’t be too quick to guess the thoughts of others. Not everyone spends their mental energy judging the behaviour of random strangers who they’ll never see again. Forget about it.. maybe have a beer.. maybe even on the train!

  12. Been in Tokyo 2 years ago and (luckily) have not seen many tourists behave like complete idiots. But for the past 2 years I have been seeing socials sharing a lot of these acts. Did it get so much worse in 2 years? I will travel again to Japan in a week and I guess I will see with my own eyes, although I won’t stay at over-touristy cities

  13. I used to do this type of crap up into my my late 20s. This type of behavior isn’t new and will continue to be as long as stupidity exists and I don’t think that will ever go away. It is what it is.

  14. Fucking douche bags. Thank god the Japanese economy currently relies on tourism dollars, otherwise we’d all be banned from the country forever.

  15. Not uncommon, the biggest trouble makers in Vegas tend to be British/Aussies. Sad stereotype that keeps ringing true.

  16. With all the hate going on right now I think you’re doing all of us a disservice right now with this. Tourists are always going to be tourists and posts like this aren’t going to change anything.
