>Though this encounter wasn’t fatal, two bear attacks earlier this month took the death toll to 7 people so far this year, according to official data and local news reports – the highest annual toll since records began in 2006.
Damn 7 people.
At first I read market and thought this was a financial post
He was looking for his friends, those Harbio bears, but wanted to snack on some humans instead.
Yogi is hungry!
What’s up with bears entering supermarkets? Why specifically supermarkets? They said it didn’t seem interested in food, and you’d think some bears would enter restaurants if that’s all it was.

At least the bears population is rising and thriving.
Bit of a shit headline because this particular attack wasn’t fatal.
So are they going to look for the root cause of this? Or just keep killing bears till they are all gone?
He looks well fed…
I have a lot of experience around both black and brown bears on the west coast (BC, Washington, Oregon).
I keep seeing all these stories about bear attacks here and I can’t help but wonder – are Japanese bears way more aggressive? Are they just running out of food?
Japanese bears are relatively small. A small black bear attacking someone in North America is very, very rare. Fatalities? Extremely rare. Japan has 1/3 the population and it seems to have like 4x the bear fatalities. What’s going on?
Not only that, but a disproportionate number of bear fatalities in North America are brown bears because brown bears are more likely to kill you and this is due to them being absolute apex predators. Black bears are a lot more skittish in comparison (relatively speaking). Japan doesn’t have brown bears.
So what’s up with Japanese bears? Are they some kind of nightmare species that has the size of a black bear but the temperament of a polar bear?
See, we are in a bear market, no wonder the Yen collapses!
here in the US people who live in bear country usually have a rifle or high caliber pistol handy in case of an encounter. are Japanese allowed to have hunting rifles for this sort of thing or are their gun control laws too strict for that?
Japan truly experiencing a bear market
Are they starve? That’s why they come in the city?
I’m about to leave for Japan in 10 days and now I have to worry about fookin’ BEARS? 😂
Bear enters Japanese supermarket, sees post-inflation prices, leaves in disgust.
