Hello! I have been living in Japan since December 11th, 2024 and came with an IDP and my Canadian driver's license. A month ago I started the process of converting my driver's license and it took longer than expected to get the necessary paperwork. Now the earliest appointment I've got is mid January in Sapporo (I live close to Otaru).
(I have done this process in Canada before since I'm from France and it only took a week to get an appointment and 30min at the driving center. So I didn't realise I was starting the process to late here)
I looked online, ask Chatgpt etc… It doesn't look like there is anyway for me to drive during that period and Sapporo's center doesn't seem to have a cancellation/waiting list. I think I have to accept that I won't be able to drive (I was supposed to for work).
I just wanted to reach out to you guys, just in case anybody has a miraculous solution to my problem, a way to legally drive during that time. Thank you!
