Shortage of truck drivers is becoming a social issue. Major convenience stores are reviewing their logistics networks including reducing the number of deliveries to stores.
For example, starting Sept. 16th, FamilyMart is planning on reducing the number of deliveries of items such as onigiri and lunch boxes from three times a day to two times a day in more than 540 stores in Toyama, Ishikawa, and Fukui prefectures.
Followings are some things major convenience store are doing.
- Seven-Eleven has reduced its deliveries from four times a day to three times a day, mainly for stores outside of urban areas
- Lawson has reduced its deliveries from three times a day to two times a day, mainly for stores in urban areas.
- FamilyMart and Lawson have also been reviewing their logistics networks, with joint deliveries beginning last year in parts of the Tohoku region.
