I like the Guardian but Justin McCurry is an awful journalist. It’s either “WhaCKy JapAn!!1one!!” articles instead of the major or meaningful news events, or hyping up far-right populism. Click on his name at the side of the article for examples of what he usually produces. I guess that’s what gets clicks.
And they are very valuable.
I know a lot of foreign parents who send their kids to international or foreign-friendly private schools, and their learning is miles ahead of their Japanese friends.
I live close to such a school with many Chinese and Korean kids. One day they were apparently tasked to go out and interview tourists as part of an English practice. I was surprised how good their English skills were, as they were just 7-8 year old at most.
Most Japanese kids at that age can barely form a full sentence.
It also feels like these schools focus much more on individual strenghts and skills.
Sadly a lot of Japanese companies will see this as a bad thing, and these kids will likely find their future careers abroad…
