RTK users, have you learned several words for each kanji?

Hello, I've recently started studying kanji again. As for the method, I learn the kanji through the short story and its definition(s).
Some people think that you need to learn at least two words associated with the kanji (to know both readings). What do you think? How did you do it, and do you have any advice?
