Dog owner referred to prosecutors after a shopper called police after seeing an collapsed dog that was left in the car for 4 hours


On July 10, the Ogaki Police Station of the Gifu Prefectural Police sent a 51-year-old man from Yoro Town, Gifu Prefecture, to the Ogaki Branch of the Gifu District Public Prosecutors Office on suspicion of violating the Animal Welfare Act (abuse) for leaving his dog inside a hot car for approximately four hours.

According to the station, the man is suspected of abusing his dog by leaving it inside a hot car for approximately four hours from around 12:40 PM on July 20 in the parking lot of a shopping facility in Ogaki City, Gifu Prefecture.

A shopper who passed by found the dog collapsed inside a car in the parking lot and called 110. The dog was rescued and is said to be recovering. The maximum temperature in Ogaki City on that day was 34.4 degrees Celsius.
