
On the morning of September 9th, graffiti was found on a pillar of Kasuga Taisha Shrine, a World Heritage Site in Nara.
Several kanji characters were written on an important cultural property. The graffiti was discovered at Kasuga Taisha Shrine, a World Heritage Site in Nara City.
According to the police, graffiti was discovered on a pillar in the east corridor of the main hall, an important cultural property located on the premises. A total of 10 characters resembling kanji, including people's names, were written in blue on a 29cm diameter pillar in the east corridor, covering an area of approximately 28cm height and 3cm width.
When staff subsequently checked the premises, they also found graffiti resembling kanji on a pillar in the worship area located northeast of the main hall.
Police are continuing their investigation on suspicion of violations of the Cultural Properties Protection Act.
