When flying to Okinawa from Osaka as a foreigner (I’m from New Zealand), is a passport required? My partner left his passport on the bullet train two days ago & we’ve gone through all the procedures to get a new one but we’re supposed to be flying to Okinawa tomorrow.
I’ve seen we board from the Osaka KIX airport which is international & not the Osaka ITM airport, whereas I thought Okinawa would’ve been a Domestic location.
PLS HELP!!

No ID checks for domestic flights in Japan, like NZ and Australia. You’ll be fine. KIX handles domestic flights too.
None. Just present your reservation at the ticket counter. Easy.
Have you also followed the steps to try to get the passport back? If it was found on the Shinkansen it’s very likely either to end up in a central lost and found or, because it’s a passport, be turned over to the police. Someone on r/JapanTravel might have good tips about who to call.
Are you guys getting a rental car? Have you checked to see if they require one? If you have yours, it might be ok.
Confirming no ID check for domestic. Especially if you have the app and do it all on your phone.
Nope. Just need a booking code for your flight – it’s all self service checkin and bag drop.
It’s insanely easy and quick
We’re aussies and currently flying from Okinawa back to Tokyo today.. no ID checks at all
Okinawa was returned to Japan in 1971, so you don’t need to show your passport to go to the mainland anymore.
Domestic travel usually just requires some form of ID, but i was traveling to nagoya and just showed check in on my phone
