Hello I am a 33 year old (M) with a bachelors in Education (along with 4 years of teaching) and my wife and I visited Japan two years ago and we miss it so much. We spent a month traveling between six cities and it was honestly the best time of my life (outside of my daughter's birth).
As time has passed we cant help but feel like we are missing out on a life we so desperately want to try. Ive done a ton of research about going through JET and teaching in Japan in general and I genuinely feel like its something I would enjoy just like I do in the States. AFAIK my wife would be able to obtain a visa that allows her to work 28 hours per week, correct? She has pretty good grasp on Japanese including reading/writing.
Do you think we are too old at 33 & 30 to move to Japan and start anew? Our child is only 8 months old so I would like to immediately help her learn Japanese and we would try out a year and if we liked it maybe stay permanently.
Also, JET is only a 1-2 year program so if I were to stay teaching permanently would I be able to retire or is 33 too old to start teaching?
