Going to Okinawa as a GS-Employee

I have the chance to go to Camp Foster as a GS-Employee. What information can y’all give me with regards to the living situation (I’d be taking my wife and kids), healthcare access and cost of living. Also honestly everything else y’all want to share would be appreciated.

  1. Foster has the main hospital so that’s convenient I. You live near base.

If you’ve ever been to Florida, specifically Miami, it’s like that weather and tourist wise. The culture is laid back, so don’t expect anything too fast out here.

    It’s a generally safe place.

Lots of opportunities to do outdoor activities, but if you’re not that type of person then it can get boring/old fast.

  2. I can’t speak to your specific situation, but my wife and I got here not long ago, and the transition has been pretty smooth. Lots of rental agencies on the island, naval hospital is excellent, and it’s the opportunity of a lifetime for your family, especially the kids. It’s an easy place to live with lots of adventure to be had. DM if you have any specific questions

  3. I’m gs but here flying solo. (going in 4+ years)

it’s good. housing is good. I work with plenty of people with kids here so that’s good.

are you getting return rights? if so why not come. don’t like it go back… (do 1 school year)

  4. You should have your sponsor’s information, and this will help make a smooth move. This person should have all the answers for you.
