It has been revealed that Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Matsumoto Yohei, who joined the Takaichi Sanae Cabinet for the first time on the 21st, was a supporter of a film that questions the existence of the “Nanjing Massacre”. When asked about his understanding of the Nanjing Massacre at his inauguration press conference on the 22nd, Matsumoto cited the government’s position that does not deny the killing and looting of non-combatants and simply said, “That’s the view. I would like to carry on that sentiment and do my best.”
The film Matsumoto endorsed was “The Truth About Nanjing,” produced in 2007. On its official website, the director claims that the Nanjing Massacre was a “hoax” and a “fabrication.” As of January 2008, the website listed Matsumoto, as well as several other Diet members, journalists, and researchers, as endorsers.
And so it begins. Hopefully this PM is one and done.
(psssst — that’s the team that won 😬. Katayama is a piece of work too)
Perfectly in line with recent global trend of politicians being appointed to positions of responsibility based on their strongest areas of incompetence.
