As a woman in my early twenties, I often spend time shopping alone near Shinjuku where a lot of hosts and other shady people try talking to me. I almost consistently get at least ten people approach me everytime I walk through the station to the surrounding areas, I presume to coerce me into joining their host club or some other shady business.
Often times, they will directly shove cash (usually just 1000 yen notes) at me to urge me to respond to them. Obviously, I’ve never taken it and usually just ignore them completely to speed-walk ahead. But could they realistically do anything if I just took the cash they’re literally shoving at me and just left? It becomes tempting sometimes.
