Escalator: New Rule, nope

The “stand still, don’t walk” rule.
So I guess it’s never really gonna be a thing?
I mean, they put signs everywhere in Daimon Station, but people don’t care, they just go for it.

A couple of times I stood on the right side and stopped, but damn, that guilty feeling. I could almost hear people’s thoughts behind me, and it wasn’t pretty.

So what’s the deal? Is it meant to save the escalators’ lifespan? Or to avoid accidents? Should they just post someone at the bottom to tell people to stop walking?

I know Japanese people are usually all about following the rules, but clearly, nobody gives a flying fuck about this one.
