Has anyone had experience buying land or building a house under a Japanese spouse’s name in Okinawa?
My husband works under SOFA status but is not in the military.
I’m working as an IHA on the military base, and I’m currently on childcare leave. I’m supposed to go back to work June 2026.
I would really appreciate any advice!

There is one combined residential/investment loan that is available to SOFA status consultants who are married to Japanese citizens or permanent residents. Until September this loan did not cover purchases in Okinawa, but they recently added Okinawa as a region they handle. It is not a regular product they advertise, but an experimental side project that is only offer through certain American real estate agents they trust.
