Got NURO光 installed a few days ago and it’s honestly been a nightmare.
Since day 1, the connection dies about every 15–60 minutes. The internet just completely stops for anywhere from 10 seconds to over 10 minutes. When it happens, EVERYTHING cuts at once: calls, work meetings, gaming, streaming, even normal browsing. Then it randomly comes back, and then it happens again.
This is not Wi-Fi range or my setup. I tested:
- Wired PC directly into their ONU
- Different Ethernet cable
- Power cycling
- Full factory reset of their ONU
- DNS changes / IPv6 on/off / MTU tuning
- Even tried with a different router
Same issue every time. Inside my local network, 0% packet loss. But to the outside world, I measured ~13% packet loss over a few hours, and 100% loss during the outages. So the problem is clearly on NURO’s upstream side, not in my apartment.
I sent NURO detailed info (timestamps, test results, screenshots). Their reply was basically “please reboot/reset and wait a week.” They said they remotely reprovisioned my ONU and that everything ‘completed normally.’ Meanwhile, the line is still cutting out in the middle of work calls.
This isn’t just “evening congestion.” It happens morning, afternoon, night. It’s supposed to be a high-speed, low-latency line, but I literally can’t stay in a meeting for 30 minutes without getting disconnected.
I’m already looking at switching (auひかり, etc.). If you’re considering NURO光: be careful. The marketing looks great, but if your area is unstable you just get nonstop dropouts and support that tells you to reboot and wait.
The speed and signal strength(Nuros connection to their own router) are amazing but every single day has consistently been around 3.5% down time based on my non stop ping tests.
Can anyone tell me if they have had similar experience, if AU Hikari is any better, and if any internet providers for mansions actually support using your own router so I don't need to double NAT?
Edit: For reference, I'm in Toshima-ku and this is in a mansion. Home's may have a better experience.
Edit 2: Guys I mentioned trying my router as an alternative but I spent days without using it using everything factory settings. I only mentioned my router because I found that somehow that made the network better. I ran simulataneous ping tests on my laptop and my desktop with 1 connected to each network (1 to Onu, 1 to VPN) and the vpn one had considerably less down time. This confirms the issue is the upstream tunnel on Nuro.
Edit 3: Can't even post or comment because the internet has been down for over 10 minutes.
