There is something so satisfying and yet mildly frustrating about making sushi. I realize this is counterintuitive to the spirit of the art of making sushi, so the first thing I need to work on is patience. I'll report back in 30 years with my progress on that front. 🤣
Secondly, I need to work on my posture. My back was COOKED after this prep session. Gotta work on that pain preventing form – I can't imagine doing this all day!
As for the sushi, this was my first try at rice on the outside, which was simultaneously easier than I expected and hard to get across the finish line. I could not get the rice to meet up perfectly and seal the roll. Any suggestions would be lovely.
This was also my first attempt at nigiri and sashimi. The sashimi was wonderful, and naturally very easy. The nigiri took a few trys to get that nice oblong bit of rice that held together. Next time I want to get some really nice, high quality soy sauce to brush on the fish like I've seen the pros do.
Overall, I feel good about how this turned out, and my lovely ladies agreed and enjoyed it very much! We even had the miso soup to start, and the 'wow, I ate way too much' to end it. Looking forward to next time. Thinking about dabbling in Tempura…
