Those who have been in Japan for a long time may remember in the 1990s and early 2000s, the concept of "Engrish." This was funny and nonsense English that people would see on clothing, signs, etc. At the time it was quite common, and there were major websites devoted to collecting it at one point. This sort of funny English was everywhere back in the day, and some of them were absolutely hilarious.
I dont' think it has completely disappeared, but it seems far less common. And English I see about seems far more accurate, or at least devoid of absolutely bonkers phrasing. I assume the proliferation of the internet is the main reason.
Does anybody else from back in the day remember this, and am I right that it is mostly gone, or at least far rarer?
