Why are so many things on my home internet blocked? Is this normal?

When I try to do any of these things on the home internet that came with my apartment, it completely fails to load or download at all:

  • Downloading games from Steam
  • Streaming from dアニメ
    • Particularly, downloading the "license" file before being able to stream – streaming works on my home internet per-se if this license file is downloaded beforehand over mobile data, but otherwise it fails.
    • And for some reason, it used to work months ago but now it doesn't?
  • Downloading software updates for Microsoft Windows
  • Using Speedtest.net
    • Specifically, the website itself loads, but when I have it start doing an internet speed test, it says it's unable to connect to any servers
    • This also worked 2 years ago back when I moved in to my apartment, but I tried it today and it just fails?
    • Yet oddly enough, other speed test services work fine
  • Anything that involves downloading large amounts of files from servers in China
    • For example, when downloading Genshin Impact or Honkai Star Rail, and most recently, downloading software updates from ASUS
    • However, I'm still able to access websites hosted in China – it's only when downloading files that it fails
  • Using WeChat
    • But for some reason, I can receive messages but not send them?
    • Also, receiving images fails. I'm only able to receive messages.

But when I do those same things on either a VPN or mobile data, it works – which is leading me to believe that some sort of firewall is blocking me from doing those things?

Would paying for my own internet service fix this?
