At a press conference on the 14th, CDP Secretary-General Jun Azumi criticized DPFP leader Yuichiro Tamaki, who has expressed reluctance to unify opposition candidates in the prime ministerial election by having differences in basic policies such as security and energy. "Both the LDP and the CDP are just trying to get the count. That's normal in this world. Principles are important, but they can't be achieved as long as they're just words."
To Tamaki's request to align with the DPFP, Azumi he said, "Instead of beating around the bush, the party leaders should just talk directly with each other". He added, "The CDP is desperately trying to gather votes in order to have more votes than LDP. We are very serious and will even consider removing Yoshihiko Noda from the party if necessary."
