As an exchange student in Japan, this is my first time paying bills in my life. I have received a ~10 000 yen bill for NHI mid-October, and I was very busy with my daily life back then, I just thought I would have had more than 2 weeks (deadline: 31st October) to pay the bills…
So on November 1st, I opened the letter and saw the deadline was passed (🤡). I still could pay at the konbini, but with that 1 day delay.
I have seen today about a new law that will apply in mid-2027, saying that just like PR, those who fail to correctly pay NHI will nearly everytime be rejected for ANY visa application. As I understood it, even a one day delay is too much. However, I was planning to start my career in Japan at least for the coming years. Will I be in trouble?
I know I was stupid for not directly checking the bill as soon as I received it, having so few time to effectively pay wasn't something that crossed my mind… At least I will never do it again lol. 🤦♂️
