Buying or renting in Tokyo

Hi,

I am moving to Japan, doing a 2 years Youth Mobility Scheme Visa (1 year but extending for 1 later)

I am lucky enough to be in a fortunate position so be able to buy a property in Tokyo instead of renting.

I am thinking of a budget of around $200k USD – ideally around 40-50 minutes maximum to Central Tokyo.

What are some good areas to consider? I heard Chiba is quite good and some houses there are very cheap.

I will also be working remotely so location is not that important, but I feel being in Tokyo at least in the first years will be beneficial for my social life.

That being said, can you get anything decent? I don't really care about amenities as long as there is a supermarket nearby, and ideally a train station no more than 15-20 mins walk.

Would you buy instead of renting if you had the opportunity?
