Moving from Switzerland to Japan

My wife and I are around 50. We are talking about a more rural approach to living in Japan, maybe just working part-time or even for charity and simply using up all the money we have saved from not having children. And learn Japanese.

The problem is residency. We are Swiss, both with 10+ years of international enterprise experience in management positions. We could afford to buy a house and simply spend all the leftover money until we die.

But it looks like there is no way to simply stay longer (residency) and spend money.

The business visa changed recently; you need a dedicated office and a full-time employee – there is not enough money for that unless the business generates at least a modest income to pay for both. But you might still lose that visa if the business isn't running great…

For most other visas (e.g. highly skilled professional), you need a local job, and with Japanese N5 and only a part-time idea, this will not really work out.

Does anybody have any experience or idea besides the visa for Designated activities (Long Stay for sightseeing and recreation) that only allows 6-12month?
