I am glad, but it’s a pity it didn’t happen sooner.
Look…I get it..it seems like a waste of money.
But it’s the law. Just pay it and shut up moaning. Having a state broadcaster is important and yes nhk needs to change but you REALLY don’t want all your media being owned by very rich people.
Japanese society runs on social norms. They are enforced primarily by societal pressure.Tachibana seems to have built his constituency, such as it is, by breaking those norms. He always seemed to get away with it which unfortunately normalized the behavior and inspired others to emulate it. I imagine part of this is simply the government trying to send a wider message to other populist political types to turn it down a notch.
The walls are closing in on these chuds. They always overplay what little hand they have.
