Hey everyone,
I’m an Italian PhD student in museum communication and a graphic designer, and I’ll be spending six months in Japan for research on how museums communication. I’m really excited but I’m also a bit nervous about a few things.
I don’t speak Japanese and don’t plan to learn it during my stay, so I’m worried it might be hard to connect with people socially. For those who’ve lived there, how was your experience making friends without the language? Are there creative or international communities that are open and easy to join?
I’m also really curious about the graphic design scene, how approachable it is for foreigners, and if there are any events, exhibitions, or studios worth checking out. And honestly, I’m a bit scared of earthquakes too, so any advice on that would help.
Would love to hear your thoughts or experiences, especially from people in the creative field. Thanks!
