Mini rant (and question) about how outdated Japanese banking systems can be. I’ve been working remotely part-time for an American company recently, but I’m having trouble receiving payments. I’ve narrowed the issue down to a possible mismatch between my name on ID docs and the one registered with Japan Post Bank.
As some of you might know, Japan Post Bank has a character limit for names. So if your full name is something like John Robert Williamson, it ends up being shortened into Williamson Robert Jo, which can easily mess things up when dealing with international transfers.
My question for anyone here who has successfully received money from overseas through Japan Post Bank: Which name did you use? The exact one printed in your bankbook, or your full legal name?
