Do you think you can tell the difference between residents and tourists off appearance alone?

I asked this question to one of my Japanese friends, and he said he could based off the 雰囲気 but didn’t get any more specific than just “vibes”.

So I asked some of my foreign friends and it was 50/50– some can, some can’t.

I think I can, based on appearance and general demeanor (shorts, sunglasses, backpacks, general fashion sense) but I was curious as to what everyone else thinks.

If you can tell the difference, what gives it away?
