SMBC Prestia for students?

Hi! I put in an application for a prestia account about a month ago. I’m a student in tokyo from USA that doesn’t work, but I’m sent around 500,000 (high rent and two cats) per month for living expenses. Does prestia seem like a good option or should I apply for a different one? I already sent my tax docs to this bank about two weeks ago and haven’t received word back

I’ve also lived here for 7 months so over 6 month mark

Sorry if it’s a dumb question! thank you

  1. Prestia is good for one thing: in-person service in English. (And maybe a few obscure niche things like depositing paper cheques from abroad). They don’t offer great compatibility with the financial system, they don’t offer great foreign exchange rates (except maybe if you have high status? But the bar for that is very high), they don’t have many branches…

If you’ve been here 6 months you should know enough Japanese to be able to deal with a better bank IMO.
