Hello everyone,
I'm currently working outside of Japan but am actively exploring job opportunities there, which would require me to move and get a work visa sponsored.
I am worried about the risk of leaving my current job without a guaranteed offer and a secured visa.
My main questions are:
1. Is it generally acceptable and possible to go through the entire Japanese hiring and Certificate of Eligibility (CoE)/visa application process while still employed at my current, non-Japanese company? I only want to resign once I have the new job offer and the CoE approval (or equivalent assurance).
2. During the hiring or visa sponsorship process, do Japanese companies typically ask for official documents directly from my current employer (e.g., proof of employment, salary slips that would signal my job hunt)? I am concerned about my current employer finding out before I'm ready to give notice.
4. How much flexibility can I expect with a start date? Since CoE processing can take time (I hear 1-3 months), would a company generally wait that long after the offer is accepted?
5. Tose who applied from overseas, at what point in the process (interview stage, offer acceptance, CoE approved) did you feel safe enough to give notice to your old company?
Are there any red flags I should look out for that indicate a company is not equipped to handle the visa/overseas hiring process smoothly?
Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated! I want to handle this transition as securely as possible. Thanks in advance!
