Tokyo court rejects Japanese descendant’s claim for nationality

TL;DR Takei Jose, 82, is a child of a Japanese father, who worked as a railway engineer in the Philippines during WWII. Unfortunately, Takei's father went missing after Takei was born.

Takei has presented DNA evidence based on his father's Japanese relatives but the court decided lack of records to confirm his father acknowledging parenthood as a reason for rejecting Japanese nationality.

There are about 50 stateless people in the Philippines who claim Japanese parentage but unable to obtain Japanese nationality because their fathers died during the war or were repatriated.
