For Americans that made the move – how did you do it?

27F with 2 children, aged 2 and 2 months. Husband, 33M, works for Ford. We have been doing a lot of research regarding things that we are looking for out of life, and for our children’s wellbeing, and have started considering an international move. Japan has really peaked our interest and seems to have everything we are looking for. My father lived in Japan while in the military and raves about it all the time. Hypothetically, how would one go about even considering making this move? How did you do it? How hard was it? How is life abroad?
