This has been ongoing for months, but the staff at the 7/11 near me has become absurdly unprofessional
I often go there late at night, like 1-3am because part of my job is working with our New York team so I'm just up.
I started noticing that sometimes the staff would be watching youtube videos, or listening to music, or whatever. That's ok, barely any people come in, but it's kind of still… not what you should be doing at your job. They would turn it off when I came in. And 10 years ago, this would have been unimaginable to see in any Tokyo combini.
Last week, the guy working there, who knows me by now, did not stop watching youtube when I came in. He literally just kept watching his video until I came to pay and then he paused it.
I get that I am white, so they don't care, but it's still kind of annoying to see.
And last night, the guy was sleeping. Yes, sleeping. I was in the store and waiting at the register, I called out to see if anyone would respond, but nothing.
A Japanese dude was also in the store, he went in the back and shouted, and the clerk literally got up rubbing his eyes. He was passed out in the back.
This is extremely unusual behavior in Tokyo. I have NEVER seen anything like this before. Are you noticing a downgrade in service anywhere else?
