Hello.
I'm an American who is currently working as an airline pilot. I have visited Japan frequently to visit relatives (my mother is originally from Japan) and just absolutely love it there. In addition, it seems that retiring in Japan is extremely cost effective given the cost of living and exchange rate from USD to YEN. I am looking at the possibility of retiring there, and am looking to see if it is even possibke at all, and if so, how one can go about it. I am familiar that 'living in Japan' is entirely different than visiting the country. However, I've been in love with Japan my entire life and am seriously pondering the idea of living there. From what I understand, I don't believe one can just move to Japan without obtaining some sort of a visa, which commonly seems to be through some sort of employment. Just wondering if there are other 'retired' folks here who have 'retired in Japan, whether that requires a work visa, or some other means.
Thank you very much!
