Canadian university student in need of some insight

Hello, I am a Canadian citizen, 20, currently studying for a computer science degree here in Canada at a smaller university, and I've been thinking about my career path after graduation. The current job market where I live has been ridiculously horrible post pandemic, tech being one of the industries affected, and it doesn't really seem like the job market and cost of living are going to get better anytime soon, so I am exploring alternatives that might present better opportunities.

I recently picked Japanese as a third language, I am currently at N4 level and will continue to improve if the move there is worth it.

My main questions are:

  • Do you think there are decent opportunities for junior level software developers or entry level tech roles in Japan, even with a smaller university background?
  • Is the ratio between tech industry salary and cost of living good enough to justify the move?
  • Alternatively, would me getting some industry experience here first, then move there be a smarter approach?
  • Given the current job market/cost of living situation in Japan, would it make sense to go there to find work and live, or are the opportunities just as limited as they are here?
  • Is it possible to somehow work for a western company there, and do I need any visa requirements, specifically for tech workers or someone with a bachelor's degree?
  • Kind of a silly question, but are bigger cities like Tokyo foreigner friendly?
