I recently got a role at Rakuten as an auditor and am having a difficult time deciding whether to move back to Japan. I currently live in NYC, and work at one of the Big 4 (I’ve worked here for a year and a half now, straight out of college). I was born and raised in Japan, and am half Japanese, so it’s not like I’m moving to a completely new country. I also speak native Japanese so I’m not too worried about that either. However, I’m super conflicted because almost everyone that I’ve talked to are telling me that moving to Rakuten is not a good move career wise especially from a big 4. A lot of people have told me that Rakuten is mostly used as a stepping stone company for foreigners who don’t speak perfect English/new to the Japanese culture. Is this true? I would love any insights into Rakuten and this career switch from a non biased perspective.
I would also appreciate insight from anyone who is currently working or has worked at Rakuten. What is it like?
