I've had to do a bunch of online trainings for my (American, corporate) job recently and as is often the case, the example scenarios all consisted of people with generic caucasian American names like Alice and Bob, or John and Jane. It got me wondering if there are equivalents in Japanese… are there generic-sounding names that function like "John Smith" or "Jane Doe" that would sound like obviously fake/placeholder names to a Japanese person?
I've been thinking back to all the study materials I've used over the last few years and can't tell if the names in those fit the bill here, or if they are just relatively common Japanese names. Minna no Nihongo, Japanese for Busy People tend to use a lot of gaijin names anyway. Plus most JLPT listening is 男の人 and 女の人.
