Is it just me, or are the voice actors doing a certain "voice" when dubbing over foreigners? It just feels kinda over the top and theatrical to me. Maybe I'm misreading it, but I can't help but wonder why they talk like that. When English programs dub over foreigners in street interviews it might sound a bit stiff because of the language translation, but I don't think they're doing a particular voice. I felt that the way foreigners are dubbed here sometimes feels like it emphasizes their “foreignness,” almost making them seem like characters rather than regular people, even though it's a street interview. Thoughts?
I understand that it'd be pretty difficult to make the dub feel completely natural and native like, I don't think any TV station in the world can really achieve that. But, I'd rather have those slightly stiff voice overs, kinda like how it sounds in JLPT listening tests where two Japanese people are having a conversation.
