  1. Hello, I wanted to construct an analytical post breaking down my thoughts on two characters to celebrate the birthday of one of my favorites, and wanted to know if my post is grammatically correct (and most importantly **natural-sounding**).

I feel like this is probably the best post that I have constructed since beginning to learn Japanese, so I hope to bring it as close to perfection as possible

I wanted to try switching to a kana keyboard on mobile. Is there a way to make Gboard’s 12-key conversion suggestions less verbose and just show me how punctuation would look like in print? By that I mean, rather than telling me the first option is a “始めかぎ括弧” and that the second option is a “始め二重かぎ括弧”, can’t it literally just show me a plain 「 and 『 instead? Gboard does not have this verbosity problem when using rōmaji input.

The only workaround I’ve come across is typing かっこ and just choosing the correct punctuation from the conversion suggestions dropdown menu to get a pair. That might be the most practical solution since I won’t likely type one end without the other.

  3. Should I start learning kanji immediately after katakana, alongside grammar, or should I prioritise one or the other more?

  4. I’m having trouble parsing something today.

In the below passage I marked two parts.
    したくせよ
    したくいたせと

The first one I’m reading as したく せよ
    second したく いたせ と

Alternatively I could see した くせ but I want to say the second instance hints that is wrong. I could also see 悔いた.

Either way, my gut is that it’s a demand to prepare defences (because of せ) but I’m not sure what したく is doing there as I have fossilized this as meaning “want”. A pure guess would be I want and am ordering but I think I’ve made too many leaps of logic.

    すでに三里さきまでおし寄せてまいった、防戦**のしたくせよ**、と通知がまいったところであった。それを早くもさとったとは、さすがに三両りょうで買った名馬、あっぱれ物の役に立つぞ。清兵衛せいべえ、そちは急ぎ陣中じんちゅうに防戦**のしたくいたせと**、どなって歩け」

  5. Can ある be paired with で or is it always with に?

To say “found wagyu in this country!”, do we use

    「この国に和牛があった!」 or 「この国で和牛があった!」

    ?
