I’m currently a student at a Japanese language school, and it’s been about a month since I arrived in Japan.
My seniors helped sign me up for my first part-time job since I didn’t know how the whole process worked. I ended up working at a sushi restaurant. The shift is from 9 PM to 1 AM (sometimes even past 2 AM), and honestly, it’s really exhausting for me.
Right now, my classes are from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM, so I have to wake up early every day. After our upcoming exam, though, my teacher will switch me to the evening class (1:30 PM to 5:30 PM). That schedule is better since I won’t have to wake up early after working late.
But the problem is… I prefer having my free time at night, not in the morning. So I’m thinking about switching to a morning shift job, maybe at a convenience store (コンビニ) or something similar. The morning shift at the sushi place is fine too, but I feel like working at a コンビニ might fit me better than working at a restaurant.
The issue is that I’ve only worked at the sushi restaurant for 7 days, and I don’t know how to tell them I want to quit. I don’t want to leave a bad impression, especially since I’m a new staff member.
Any advice or ideas would be really helpful. Thanks.
