I moved to Japan a month ago, and have been trying to figure out my finances. I opened a bank account at JP Post which took me 2 weeks. I have been trying to apply for a debit card but for some reason their application webpage just does not respond after reading terms and conditions. Their toll free number is of no use since you need to know Japanese to talk to them. Has anyone else faced this, and figured out how to solve this?
Due to this, I was considering opening another bank account in another bank but I am not able to decide on one. I have heard bad things about SMBC Prestia and Sony both, but they are the only banks that seem to have any support for foreigners.
What bank would you guy recommend? For context, I live in Chiba, 1hr away from Tokyo, and I need a bank account mostly to collect my salary and for international remittance.
