Interview: Women’s Safety on Public Transit

Hello everyone! My name is Cecilia, I am a 25 year old woman studying anthropology! I am currently on exchange here in Osaka until February 2026!

I came here to collect data for my bachelor’s thesis about Women’s Safety on Public Transit in Japan and I am looking for women who are willing/able to participant in my project!

A bit about my project:

The project is trying to understand and examine the lived experiences of women in Japan on public transit, especially on trains. I want to find out more regarding how women feel when getting around in their daily lives and also gain some insight into the concept of “ちかん”

Outline:

Dates: December – February

Conduct 1 interview – These interviews will be conducted mostly in English, but if you forget a word or something of the sort, don’t worry about looking it up with a translator!

Interviews will be conducted face-to-face, you can choose any place you feel comfortable.

Do a participant observation: A trip together on public transport! If you have to go somewhere,
I would love to tag along on the journey! I will, of course, not tag along for any plans you might have afterwards (unless invited)

Conduct a follow-up interview – Here we will discuss anything extra I might be curious about or things I noticed during our trip together!

You will be able to review the questions for the interview beforehand, but I might ask about something extra during the interview if something interesting comes up (which I am sure it will!)

I hope some of your interests have been piqued! Please do feel free to reach out to me here or feel free to add me on line: https://line.me/ti/p/9976CQqAs6

That’s kinda creepy. You should remove that even if it was a joke, considering the subject of your research.
