A) A game you've mastered.
Pros:
– You won't get stuck from not understanding
– You can fill the gaps on what you might not understand with what you remember from dialogues, etc.
– You'll be able to pick up new vocabulary with words that frequently occur within that game, if you don't have them internalized yet (Locations, items, moves, etc).
Cons:
– Familiarity with the game might give an illusion that you're using your knowledge of the language to progress in the game, when in reality it's your knowledge of the game doing it (basically the game plays itself).
B) A game you know nothing or very little
Pros:
– You'll be pretty much forced to understand to get anything done.
Cons:
– Might be too demanding if your understanding of the language is too low to take on a challenge like this
C) A compromise, such as a game you've played a little, demands very little reading, or a sequel of a game you've mastered
–
If it's at all relevant, my current level is somewhere between N3 and N2.
