For context, I’ve been living in Japan for over a year now. Back in the spring I was talking with some expat friends – young, healthy women in their 20s and early 30s – who were all discussing how hair loss was a common denominator amongst foreigners who moved to Japan. At the time I’d only been here for several months and I told them I hadn’t experienced it but I thought it was weird they all had that in common.
Fast forward to summer I noticed it happening. My hair was coming out in what was almost clumps in the shower. I blamed it on summer and the heat and thought it was a phase.
Now that it’s fall going into winter it’s died down a little bit but my hair has very noticeably gotten thin. Previously my hair was super thick and it shocked me to see a third party’s photo of myself with my hair in a ponytail and I was like woah… my hair is like half gone now.
Anyone else going through this? I’ve tried different shampoos, even laundry detergent and can’t figure it out. I’m 99% certain this is a Japan thing. This has never happened before and I’m overall a pretty healthy individual.
