Hello all!
Next January I'll be moving to Japan for a year due to a work assignment. I have been wondering, what's the best way to get a phone plan for my non-Japanese phone? I've heard of e-sim and portable wifi as options. Also, any recommendations for home internet service providers?

You don’t need a Japanese phone to have a Japanese phone plan. If your phone has a sim slot, you can buy a sim card and use it.
if your phone supports e-sims, you could also use that.
Some internet companies like SoftBank have fixed-length 2-year contracts where cancellation during a certain period requires you to pay for all the months cancelled.. so if you’re not here for that long, be aware…
For just a 1 year stay, it would seem best to just stay at a monthly rental where internet is already provided.
