Yesterday I was in Shinjuku and visited three places: 1) a Starbucks (Japan, 〒160-0022 Tokyo, Shinjuku City, Shinjuku, 2 Chome−5−12 FORECAST新宿AVENUE) 2) Shinjuku Pit Inn 3) Daiso
After that, I went to a nearby Daiso, and that’s when I realized my wallet was missing.
I immediately went back (within about 10 minutes) to both Starbucks and Pit Inn to check, but nothing was found. The staff in both places said they hadn’t seen any wallet.
At Daiso, I also asked the staff to check their cameras, but nothing showed up there either.
After that, I filed a lost item report at the koban (police box) and also checked four nearby police boxes, hoping someone might have turned it in — but no luck. Also they just checked their computer so is it possible that the system just could not update the found item ?
The wallet contains 40000 yen and some US cash + my Taiwanese bank book, one bank card (but u never used this bank, it was just for my 1st job requirement), my photos for documents, so I’m really stressed about it. I know that in Japan people often return lost wallets, but since this happened in Shinjuku and the wallet disappeared very quickly, I’m unsure what to expect.
My question is: Should I just wait and hope someone turns it in? Is there still a realistic chance that the wallet will be returned after a day or two?
Any advice or similar experiences would really help.
Thank you.
