Sharing our itinerary for Jan 1-16. Quite torn to get the JR pass 14 days (expensive) or buy tickets per leg (hassle); advice for transport would be greatly appreciated.
Jan 1- Tokyo: Arrival Narita 1 pm ; staying in Shinjuku Afternoon/ evening: want to experience Hatsumode ( Meiji or Asakusa) if possible. Roppongi lights; best cheap sushi or ramen suggestion?
Jan 2- Tokyo: Fuji day trip ( Chureito Pagoda, Oshino Hakkai, Panoramic ropeway. Lawson) etc.. planning to get klook day trip tours
Jan 3- Tokyo: Kamakura day trip ( Hachi Mangu Shrine, Kotoku-in temple, Hasedera temple, Kokomae Station and Enoshima island); Afternoon/ evening: Omoide Yokocho, Kabukicho. Government building. Planning to use Kamakura and Enoshima pass.
Jan 4- Tokyo: AM Toyosu market; (leave 10 am) Tokyo to Kyoto; tea ceremony 3 pm; Pontocho/ Gion; Kyoto tower; taking Shinkansen; Kyoto Ramen Koji dinner
Jan 5- Kyoto: Kobe day trip (Kitano District, Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens, Ikuta Shrine, Kobe’s Chinatown, Port, Harborland). Try kobe beef: suggestions?;
Jan 6- Kyoto – Mt Kurama day trip; transfer hotel (3 pm): Temple stay 1 night in Kyoto
Jan 7- Kyoto to Osaka (Dotonburi, Umeda etc…)
Jan 8- Osaka USJ
Jan 9- Osaka to Hiroshima (Peace Memorial park, Hiroshima Castle, Costco). Try okonomiyaki: Okonomimura okay?
Jan 10- Hiroshima to Miyajima ( Itsukishim Jinja, Mt. Misen ropeway, Omotesando) to Fukuoka; food stall dinner ( weather dependent)
Jan 11-Fukuoka: Dazaifu/ Yuffin/ Beppu day trip; planning klook day tour
Jan 12**-Fukuoka**: Nanzo-in Temple; Gundam; Castle; Nakasu area
Jan 13- Fukuoka to Tokyo; Asakusa, Ueno and Ginza area
Jan 14-Tokyo– Disney sea
Jan 15- Tokyo– Shopping.. best cheap gift suggestions? Mainly for snacks, house ware, and sleepwear.
Jan 16- travel home….
