Hi there.
I'm back on a common topic, which sadly is a constant of my lift. How to lift the curse of slow Internet?
I have a fiber connection with small provider that, on paper should be a 1 Gbit fiber. Reality, upon installing was going 500 Mb/s. only 50% of declared value, but alas, good enough (considering I improved from a heavier curse of 70Mb/s download!).
Over time, it get worse and worse and worse. there was a period in which I had sudden drops and reconnections (just what you need when you're in a meeting!), but overall got worse and worse and worse, going down to 300Mb/s to 200Mb/s. Eevery time my wife come back home the connection hiccup for a second.
I now reached below 100Mb/s (10% of what I'm paying)and my patience is running thin.
What is in my power to improve the situation?
back in uk you call the provider, explain that YES, I've turned off and on again, and NO, the router has no direct blockage (and it didn't move since 6 months anyway), and after some yelling your speed goes up to nominal values. But in Japan? I have to say it scares me a little bit calling in Japanese with my puny N4, and I'm afraid I'll just hit the "muri" wall with several "sumimasen" decorating it, and nothing will change. Am I overthinking?
Few more information:
-I work online on a remote machine in UK.
-I'd like to play online, but my friends are in Europe, and the lag is just too much.
-I have a brand new router when I got the connection. Not the top shelf, but still a good quality/latest tech available.
-After moving apartment I told my wife I wanted to take care of the internet situation (that is literally the only thing I need for work!), but the agent suggest a good package deal was available and we got stuck with that. I don't even remember what's the provider name, but is not a major company, but rather a new provider that made hot deals to get client.
